THE BIG BEAR CITY COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT IS ADVANCING TO
SEMI-AUTOMATED REFUSE COLLECTION

UPDATE 9.11.19

The Big Bear City Community Services District (District) is advancing to an automated refuse collection system. The trucks, equipped with a lifting device, will lift, empty, and return the carts to the original location. Automated collection will increase efficiency of refuse collection while improving safety. Overall operating costs will be reduced. Fewer trucks on the roads will consume less fuel and prouce lower emissions.

The District will provide a 96-gallon cart for each household with an identifier specific to each property. The carts are maneuverable and easy to roll and place roadside on the designated collection day. Carts feature large wheels and do not need to be picked up and carried. Snug fitting lids are attached to the cart to avoid blowing off or getting lost. The 96-gallon cart will hold up to 200 pounds of refuse (as much as three typical garbage cans).

The new carts will be delivered to properties within the district between September 9th and September 21st. Please begin using the new cart for refuse as soon as it arrives. All refuse including yard waste, trimmings, and ashes must be placed inside the cart with the lid closed to ensure pickup.

Recycle containers and collection will remain the same, however, the recycling program is now mandatory.

The new refuse carts will be delivered Monday - Saturday beginning Monday, September 9th and concluding Saturday, September 21st. Please refer to the table or map below for an estimated delivery window based on your normal collection day. Visit or call our office during business hours if you have any questions.
